About inclusive education and disability studies

Help develop the skills needed to empower individuals through inclusive learning and developmental opportunities, and to make a real difference in individuals’ lives. Develop a holistic view of disability and the social structures that influence learning and development for people living with disability. With a focus on the inclusion across the life span including the support of students with disabilities in schools and all aspects of community life, our courses qualify you to work in this special interest area and give you the skills to be an advocate for the learning, development and independence of people with a disability. Our undergraduate courses can be used as a pathway into a postgraduate teaching or social work course.

Admission pathways

There are multiple ways to get into inclusive education and disability studies at ACU. If you didn’t meet the entry requirements for your course, completion of a pathway course could lead to your chosen degree. Previous work experience, tertiary study or volunteering may also give you the edge you need.

Choose your own way

Inclusive education and disabilities studies are designed to provide you with a specialisation in community or school education. You can tailor your course to your specific interests by selecting topics in assessment tasks, fieldwork components and the selection of specialisation units.

Hands-on experience

Study with us to gain real world, hands-on experience as part of your degree. In addition to your lectures you’ll have the opportunity to take part in 100 hours of professional practice with human services agencies, every year of your course.

Leadership in schools

We offer a diverse range of programs across early childhood, primary and secondary education, disability and inclusion contexts, religious education and leadership development. Our courses are designed and accredited in collaboration with industry experts from Catholic education, government sector, independent schools and international partners to ensure we continue to respond to industry and accreditation needs and incorporate the latest in pedagogical innovation.

“Multiculturalism and social inclusion are very close to me. Through my career and volunteer experiences I'd like to break down barriers and empower people to be active community members with positive social values.”
