Incompatible EDAB162 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives for Educators
This unit is designed to offer pre-service teachers opportunities to learn from and through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. This is with the intention of enhancing respect for and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories and the role of Indigenous studies within the Australian educational context. The unit focus is on the diversity of Indigenous Australia with particular emphasis on the cultures and history of the region in which it is being taught. The development and implementation of the unit involves Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members and makes reference to relevant local resources. Major themes will include Indigenous ontologies, epistemologies and pedagogies, contemporary cultures and issues, the dialogue about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in the telling of Australian history and contemporary Indigenous perspectives in education.
