EXSC312 - River Journeys and Connections to Place
Prerequisites EXSC116 or EXSC202 Journeying in the Natural World
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.
Effective outdoor leadership practice requires a sound understanding of group living; connections to place; different ways of moving through environments and engaging in natural spaces. This knowledge and skill base forms part of the professional standards expected of all outdoor leaders, and is important for creating citizens who recognise their responsibility to the common good, the environment and society.
The unit teaches students different environmental approaches to land use, management, conservation and connections, while exploring features of contemporary outdoor programs. The unit aims to further develop key skills through a range of paddling experiences, to enable students to explore ways of thinking in outdoor learning and to develop leadership, decision making and judgement capabilities.
